So I've been trying to watch the Netflix "Kimi Ni Todoke ~ From Me To You". . .

 NG!!!

I am a huge fan for a long time since I watched all of the anime and read the manga. Seriously, there were parts that made me cry! It's a sweet and comfy slice of life series that you can really get into. I was hoping that the Netflix series would do that for me now.

But sadly, it's not.

I'm going to get this out of the way right now - that my feelings are not because I will only accept the original series. I am always willing to give new things a try. Especially if it's from something I love. I WANT things to keep going and get new fans into it.

But this series just fell really short for me.

Most of the casting was really good. Especially for Chizuru, Ayane and Pin. I was ok with Ryu and Shouta. But Sawako was eh. Kurumi who was actually a major plot point throughout the series hardly made an appearance. She was cast well but not given any screen time.

A little side note, I'd like to add: Ayane was def meant to be gal (with the makeup, hair, street clothes all the way down to the rumors and beliefs that she was loose and all that) which sadly was not translated into the Netflix series. She just looks more like a cute kpop girl.

The details of the locations, backgrounds, technology, etc. were pretty spot on. It really all fit with the time of the show (which was 2009) so lots of flip phones! The bedrooms were really cute and I kinda' wish I had rooms like that especially as a gal w

Can we also mention that the fashion choices were so much better?

But overall, I spent a lot of time fast forwarding through episodes. There were a lot of empty spaces until all of the teens got together for specific moments. Which is kinda' crazy cause they were fitting 25+ eps into 12 and IMO skipped a lot of small but important moments. Like they even skipped the part with the puppy!

It also lacked a lot of the charm and charisma of the original series. I loved every character and always rooted for Shouta and Sawako. But I feel like the Netflix series was too clean, void of a lot of personality and trying to play too much like a Kdrama. I didn't feel anything for any characters except Chizuru and Ayane. I feel like they carried the show when they were in the scenes.

I'm really hoping that Season 3, when it does come out, will bring us right back to what I loved about the series in the first place. I want it to fix what this Netflix adaptation did which was almost as bad as Season 2 (I really feel like the series should have ended with the first season but that's just my opinion lol).

I don't know why everything lately leads to me remembering Haruma Miura... which hurts me a lot ;-; Anyway, I loved the movie because of him & also I loved the fact that Mirei Kiritani played Kurumi. So after the movie version, everything else just seems bland. I loved your breakdown on Kimi Ni Todoke in general as I didn't know much about it, especially about Ayane.

So happy to know I'm not the only one who felt unsatisfied by the series! >_< I've only watched the first episode and came out of it really bored despite the beats of the plot being faithful to the manga

@MεΛ Thank you so much! Yeah I really need to see that movie. From just seeing screenshots, I feel it had a lot more to it than this series did.

@Teapearls Right?! I felt like the trailer was better than what it actually is.
